WD suffers cyber incident, MyCloud Services Down

Western Digital’s Home Cloud outage has been a significant inconvenience for many of the company’s customers. On March 26th, 2023, Western Digital users began reporting that they were unable to access their files, and soon after, the company confirmed that they were surfing from a cyber incident.

The Western Digital Home Cloud is a network-attached storage (NAS) device that allows users to store and share files, photos, and videos on their own personal cloud. The device is marketed as a convenient and secure way for users to access their data from anywhere in the world.

It was revealed that the outage was caused by a cyber-attack on WD’s cloud network. Two weeks later on April 9th, 2023, Wester Digital released a work solution that allows users access to files from their computer connected to the same network as their Mycloud device.

The Western Digital Home Cloud outage highlights the importance of data security and the potential risks associated with storing personal data on the cloud. While cloud storage offers many benefits, it is essential for users to take precautions to protect their data from cyber threats.

Western Digital has since apologized for the inconvenience caused by the Home Cloud outage and still working diligently to correct the issue. However, the incident serves as a reminder that even large technology companies can fall victim to cyber threats, and users should remain vigilant in protecting their data.
